Savannah
Description
/ History
The African Serval is one of the worlds disappearing wild cats. In an effort to preserve the beauty of this unique feline in the form of a domestic cat, dedicated cat breeders are working to establish the savannah cat as a bona fide breed. These characteristics have proven fairly easy to establish in the savannah because of the African serval's own rare qualities. It is known that African servals have been kept as "pets" in their native Africa for hundreds of years by village people. When in captivity the serval tends to be amiable toward human companionship, use a litter box and adjusts much better than other wild cats do. Getting an African serval to breed a domestic cat is only part of the challenge of the savannah cat breeding program. In addition to this, not all domestic cats are able to get pregnant by an African serval. It is for these reason there are only a handful of savannah cats in the world today .
