American Bobtail

Description / History     

The American Bobtail, likes its wildcat ancestors, is medium-to-large, and noticeably athletic, with a rectangular attitude. The tail is articulate, with a slight curve. The head is noticeably triangular with a distinctive brow. The American Bobtail has the intelligent, piercing look of a hunter and is noted for its wild look. Ear tipping are highly desirable. American Bobtails are relatively slow to mature, reaching full maturity in 2 to 3 years. 
This breed has a unique coat with a hard top layer that is water resistant, and an insulating under layer similar to a rabbit. The Bobtail rarely needs brushing.
American Bobtails have a lovely disposition and are highly intelligent and adaptable, making devoted pets. 
 
No two Bobtails have the same tail. Most average from one to four inches, but many are longer or shorter. 
 
Weight: 10-12 lbs.

Eyes: The American Bobtails eyes are deep-set, large and almond-shaped.

Coat: Bobtails should be groomed at least twice a week to remove loose fur.

Associations: The American Bobtail is accepted by TICA and in Miscellaneous Class by CFA.
